Uluru stories - Lungkata
Lungkata, a blue-tongued lizard man, traveled to Uluru from the north. He went to Uluru because he heard there were many other beings there and he was lonely. As he was walking around Uluru, he came across an emu that had been speared through the thigh. This was a dilemma: although Lungkata was lonely, he was also hungry. Although it was wrong to take another hunter's prey, Lungkata decided to kill the emu and take the meat. Knowing the hunter who had speared the emu would belooking for the bird, Lungkata cut the emu into pieces and hid them. Shortly, two brothers who had tracked the wounded bird
found Lungkata and asked him if he had seen the emu. Lungkata told the hunters he had not, but that he had heard what sounded like a wounded emu way, way off in the distances and sent the brothers off. Lungkata gathered all the pieces of the emu and set off to find a place to hide. In his haste to get away, Lungkata dropped pieces of the meat, leaving a trail behind him. Meanwhile, the brothers began to think Lungkata had lied to them and turned around. They found Lungkata gone, but followed the pieces of meat he had dropped to the cave he was hiding in. The hunters called up to Lungkata and told him to return the emu to them and they would go away. Lungkata continued to lie and claimed he did not have the emu. The hunters set a fire under the cave in order to smoke Lungkata out. The fire began to heat the rocks and it became difficult to breath in the cave with the smoke so Lungkata stuck his head out of the cave to take a breath of air. But the fire had heated the rocks and Lungkata lost his footing, falling down Uluru leaving his skin behind on the hot rock and died.
Young boys about to enter into manhood are told this story to teach them not to cheat, steal or lie.
The first photo has what looks like a spear sticking into the meaty part of a thigh (it also looks like an elephant head). The second picture is of the blue skin Lungkata left behind when he fell out of the cave.
